Biography
What on earth can we tell you about ARBEID ADELT! that you don't already know? They deserve that exclamation point after their name like no other, that's for sure. What else? Arbeid Adelt! was always a madhouse in which some of the greatest talents had hidden themselves away, only to come out sporadically with sensational gems like “Stroom,” “De dag dat het zonlicht niet meer scheen” and “Death disco. Every time someone from the BRT decided it was a good idea for this band to be allowed on air, the mothers, uncles and aunts of TV-watching Flanders reached for a box of Perdolan. The youth, on the other hand, were in a collective huff. Because always, really every time, it was crazy fun thanks to these pleasant fools. Marcel Vanthilt, a kind of Kladderadatsch incarnate, was the greatest asset from the start. The kind of guy you can't possibly be angry with, but you shouldn't offer him a bed to stay in, because before you know it, your whole house has become a meeting place for anarchist troops. Vanthilt and Jan Vanroelen meanwhile continue bravely, as evidenced by the CD “Het heelal is hier” (2023) and the many concerts that still attract many people. Time and again, the group proves that you don't have to shout 1-2-3-4 intros through a microphone, or that the bass guitar doesn't have to hang down to the bottom of your dongling song - think Dee Dee Ramone or Sid Vicious - to be punk. Stick Marcel and mates with an accordion, a vibraslap and a giant alphorn in their pollen and still the result will be 190 degrees more contrarian than what a weekday rock band makes of it. Well, Arbeid Adelt! opens our Sunday, Aug. 4. We expect a well-deserved standing ovation and a loud “Wunderbar!” at the start as well as a good half hour later, at departure. for this completely unique piece of Belgian heritage.
